The Smart Topper - Cooling Mattress Topper

I gave the Perfectly Snug a genuine, extended trial - the team even worked with me to extend it so I could properly test different settings. To their credit, it did solve one specific problem I had: I stopped waking up sweaty, which was the original reason I tried it.

Where it fell short for me was adaptability. The Smart Topper doesn't auto-adjust to changes in room temperature - so if the room cools down (say, from adjusting the AC), the topper stays at whatever setting you left it on rather than responding to the new conditions. On a night the room ran cold, I ended up cold and had no way for the system to compensate on its own. For someone whose main issue is a hot bed in a room that stays at a consistent temperature, this could work well. For me, with a room that fluctuates, it wasn't quite enough.

I do want to specifically call out the customer service, though - it was genuinely excellent. Zach in support was thoughtful, technical, and clearly cared about actually solving my problem rather than just pushing me through a script. He walked me through scheduler adjustments, explained the engineering reasoning behind their cooling approach, and offered both a trial extension and a size exchange without any pushback. That kind of support is rare, and it made an otherwise average product experience feel genuinely well taken care of.

Bottom line: solid execution on the cooling-without-moisture concept, but the lack of dynamic room-temperature adaptation was the deciding factor for me. If your room temperature stays fairly stable, this could be a great fit. If it swings, you may find yourself wanting a system that can respond in real time.

I just spent my first night on the Perfectly Snug smart topper that replace my Eight Sleep Pod 3, which I have had for years (and an older version before that). One caveat before I begin is that I don't generally give 5-star reviews as I often look more at the 3 & 4-star as possibly more honest and credible when looking at product reviews before buying. Lastly, I have had many different mattresses, taken them apart and built my own with various types of foams from memory to latex. This smart topper (and the Eight cover went on top of a set of pocketed coils and 3" of latex.

The Eight Sleep Pod does work very well for creating a cooling and heating surface and you can program with an app. The downsides are numerous: 1) the cumbersome water tubes and Pod water chamber that spits out some heat in order to cool the water. I have never had a leak and it is quite robust. However, it does alter the feel of your mattress surface (not the deeper support) by making it slightly stiffer. You also have to go through quite a bit to wrap your mattress. If you put anything at all on top of it to soften the surface, you block the heating and cooling.

The Perfectly Snug did work well for cooling and I loved the ability to adjust the temp with a button on the side of the mattress. For Eight Sleep, you have to turn on your phone and call up the app. That can be awkward in the middle of the night and also the phone screen can be bright, even on the dimmest setting. The cooling effect was not drafty as I had feared. The fan noise cannot be heard over an air conditioner and is not bad when the ac is not on. It is a low-level white noise once temp equilibrium is reached.

The app for Perfectly Snug is much simpler than Eight Sleep and has no subscription. They have 3 stages (used to be four) but you can't really control the length. Eight uses sensors and AI to regulate the temp, but you have to pay a subscription for that unless you were grandfathered in as I was from an early version. For Eight, I don't think that it did that a good job and it was hassle to try and second guess or preselect my temperatures. Huge advantage here for Perfectly Snug

For the sleeping feel, I was very anxious to see how the Perfectly Snug would feel and how it was constructed. (You can't complete tell from the website or YouTube reviews. I am happy to say the I was quite impressed with the unique structure. The cover consists of an open grid that that is about 1/8-1/4" thick. While the material feels like hard nylon, it is quite elastic and the structure gives into pressure. As a result, I did not find that it created pressure points on my skin. In other words it feels soft, but not mushy, like a pillow top. The Eight Sleep cover has almost no padding and is not elastic.

Underneath the cover layer is a layer of non-descript memory foam, about 1/2-3/4". This was my one disappointment, since I am not a fan of memory foam, since it gets too soft when warmed up. I hope the quality is OK and will not weaken over time. Before purchase, I had asked them by email for the foam specs and they never answered, so I took a chance. (Their choice of foams and lack of an answer is the reason for 1 less star.) Since the foam layer is a relatively small part of the overall structure, it is not that integral to its functioning. If it becomes problematic, I can always take the thing apart and replace it with the same thickness of latex, which i already have. Underneath the memory foam is another structure that circulates the air from the fans.

Overall, the topper did not interfere with the deeper support levels of my mattress and actually enhanced the more surface level feel with the unique structure described above.

Over time, we will see how it affects my sleep quality and metrics. I am glad to be rid of the overhead of dealing with the Eight Sleep and having the simpler and perhaps better type of cooling for the Perfectly Snug.

Like any other product, bought this was high hopes but average expectations. What a shock to find out this is simply amazing! My wife sleeps very hot, while I sleep a little cool. We are easily able to have individual settings. This topper keeps you at the optimal temperature throughout the night. It took just a few nights to get my settings just right. I have NEVER been more comfortable in bed. All night long. However much sleep I get, I am always more rested and rejuvenated the following day. And I don't even notice it working. I am SO thrilled that I tried this. I cannot recommend more strongly!

We had the Chill Pad system for years and constantly had to monitor and change out water and deal with leaks. This one has no water, no leaks, no maintenance. It takes a bit to get the setting just right so I don’t wake up too cold or too hot. Definitely a great purchase and so far it’s well worth the money.

I am a “hot sleeper.” I’ve tried many solutions but none really helped until The Smart Topper from Perfectly Snug. I highly recommend this product. I’m cool all night and sleeping so much better.

It seems like a miracle.
My husband has suffered from drenching night sweats for 10+ years. A medical condition causing the sweats was ruled out.
We tried everything out there.
We lowered the temperature in the bedroom, put a fan next to his side of the bed and directed it to blow on him all night. We tried high quality moisture wicking/cooling sleep shorts, cooling/moisture wicking sheets and blankets. We even purchased a cooling system that had a sheet connected to a hose and a motor that continuously blows cold air throughout the night.
Nothing worked until I purchased Perfectly Snug. He put it on the bed and programmed it to drop the temperature to sync to the times he sweats the most.
He woke up the first morning perfectly dry!!!
It has been almost 2 months since he first used the Perfectly Snug topper as has been dry every night. No sweats at all. His sleep quality has completely changed for the better.

I’ve struggled with over-heating at night for over ten years. My husband and I had the “battle of the thermostat” consistently. I ran across the add for Perfectly Snug, and with their amazing return policy I thought…”why not try it”. Oh my goodness. It is not an exaggeration to say it has changed my life. I sleep through the night now, and wake up rested since I don’t battle the heat all night. It took a few adjustments to make it 100% tailored to my needs, and once I successfully achieved that….life-changing! I also love that there are no big tubes, no water to contend with, and that the topper is sleek and thin. Truly, I could not recommend this more highly!

I keep a set a breathable sheets on top of this. The effect is subtle, but keeps my back very cool throughout the night. You may not notice it at first, but then you'll realize your back is never hot and it feels cooler than any other part of your body.

The topper also doesn't naturally store as much heat like a standard memory foam topper does, so that helps itself.

This has been fantastic, the best sleep in years. I would highly recommend for anyone who is a hot sleeper.

In desperation to find something that would help with the sleep situation caused by menopause-like side effects from a medication—and waking up feeling like I was in a Florida swamp of my own creation—I opted for Perfectly Snug after exhaustive research of the options on the market.

It has helped greatly. It definitely keeps me cooler, and I am sleeping better. I would purchase it again.

A few key things I like about it:

The topper itself is comfortable to sleep on—better than I thought it would be, especially as a side sleeper. It’s also not that noisy. The highest/cold-burst setting is noticeable, but at my preferred setting of five, it’s hardly heard. It also doesn’t scare my cats when I crank it up to the highest setting, so that has been a plus.

The fact that I don’t have to worry about leaking water was also a key reason I selected it -- I’m outnumbered by claws at bedtime.

The temperature sensor has been very much appreciated and works well. There have been a few moments when I’ve been awake enough to notice the airflow automatically kick up a little higher while I was having an “atomic moment,” which has been great.

Lastly, I really appreciate the overall low profile of the topper. There are no large boxes or heating/cooling electronics taking up space beside the bed or on the floor, which is a big plus for me.

I was a little worried about using an air-based sleep system, based on my experience with the Sleep Number air cooling mat several years ago. The Sleep Number System basically collapsed under your weight, which essentially blocked any air circulation. This Perfectly Snug system does not collapse, and therefore the air circulates freely. I have it set to -4 for sleep. This seems to be the sweet spot for me. The embedded temperature sensors definitely work. I take a hot shower every night, and once in bed, with the setting is at -4, the sensors detect my elevated body temp from the shower, and it kicks the fan into a higher level. There is no fan sound below-5 but I can hear the fan kick in to cool me down once I’m in bed. After awhile the fan slows back down to -4. I do get hot during the night, and the fan will kick back in.

I was a long/time Ooler user, but the problem with the Ooler is that there are no skin temp sensors, to regulate the temp as you sleep you can set a series of temperatures as a “schedule” during the night, but after six years use, I couldn’t find a schedule that worked for me.

I think the automatic shin temperature sensors are the key with the perfectly snug system. My wife agrees, and loves this too, . She could never embrace the Ooler.

For 20 years I couldn't sleep in my own bed. Since I got it, I sleep in my own bed every night. It was a huge problem, awkward in my romantic relationships, and costly in terms of time wasted and poor sleep. Thank you.

I tell people unprompted about perfectly snug. I can sleep comfortably in a 70 degree room instead of a 65 degree room and the fan units are perfectly integrated into the topper.

Water based cooling? Sign yourself up for mold and leaks! Bed jet? Do you really want an elephant trunk and a massive box next to your bed?

Physical controls that are easy to use right where you need them? Awesome! A spectacular functional design that works. I have two minor issues to report.

1) The software is hard to use and a primitive design and WiFi connectivity often needs to be reset.

2) on one of my beds (with a purple mattress) the cover keeps moving off to one side even with the retaining straps.

These minor complaints are more than offset by a brilliant design that will change your life. I’m grateful to have discovered this product!

After trying some competitors products, I am grateful to have finally found a sleep solution that actually works! I haven't woken up in a puddle of sweat or overheated since we got the cooling mattress topper over a month ago. What I love about it is that it's a simple solution and it adjusts to my body temp throughout the night. It doesn't require any complicated set up and it is comfortable. It's a little bit of an investment, but honestly it is worth every penny.

I have been struggling with hot flashes and sweats for years. It has only gotten worse during perimenopause. I’ve had this topper for about 6 months now and it’s a purchase I haven’t even began to think about regretting. I love having a cool bed and being able to turn on the boost if I do happen to wake up hot. The only regret I have is getting one for only my side of the bed. I see a king size one in my future. Fsa funds were used and it was quick, easy, and seamless on perfectly snugs side. I did have to submit my receipt multiple times to the fsa company, but finally had no issue when I circled and labeled every section on the receipt when I submitted for the 4th time.

I am amazed that the topper can sense my body temperature! I don’t have night sweats anymore! Very easy to adjust if needed in the middle of the night!

I bit the bullet and purchased my perfectly snug mattress after waking up 10+ times per night with hot flashes. I panicked about the cost, but after the first two nights I slept with it, I cannot imagine my life without it! I am sleeping through the night and really only waking up because I use the app and have it set to turn off so I will get out of bed. Thank you so much for creating a product that has changed my life. I have told everyone that will listen (including my doctors) about this product.
Also, the fans are so quiet, sometimes the only way I can tell it’s on is by looking at my sheets. So easy to use!

It took a while for some newly ordered cotton sheets to arrive, but when they did I found the topper to be helpful in keeping me cool. Unfortunately, where the topper was folded during shipping there is an odd lump that appears every morning because the topper wishes to continue being folded at that point. Although straps were provided to help keep the topper in place, and prevent that odd lump/fold, they are not extendable or stretchy and thus don't fit around my mattress so I can't use them. There are a few bugs to work out, but over all the topper has helped during these summer months.

I’m sleeping better. Not waking up at 01:00 and staying up until 5:00 because i’m too hot. The cold burst is great, I use it when I initially go to bed. I hope there will be an invention of a perfectly snug pillow.🙂
