How to Ditch the Devices For a Better Night's Sleep

This isn't the first time you've heard this but we can't say it enough! Giving up the devices before bed will significantly help your sleeping habits. Having a hard time? Here are our best tips:

Re-organize your phone apps

Sometimes it’s hard to put away the phone because all our favourite apps are right in front of us every time we pick up the phone, or pesty notifications always suck us in. Try moving all your most used app’s off your home screen to put them out of sight and avoid the temptation. Use this same rule for your email and messaging apps to avoid being tempted by the little red notification.

Leave it in another room

Now, we’ve all heard the ‘my phone is my alarm clock’ excuse. Hold yourself to putting your phone in the kitchen while you sleep and get yourself a traditional alarm clock. Again, out of sight, out of mind will always prove to be true.

Put yourself on OOO

Digital time should be reserved for work hours or as treats throughout the day, not 24/7. If you find yourself feeling guilty about not checking your phone, ask yourself why? Is it work related, are you worried about people getting a hold of you? If this rings a bell – set boundaries for yourself and communicate them. Tell your co-works, friends, and family you won’t be reachable during a specific timeframe.

As a general rule, we like to stick to an ‘out of sight, out of mind’ approach to devices. Whatever you have to do to get time away from your device, take control of it and prioritize it. This will allow you to be in the present, reduce device anxieties and will improve your relationship with your tech!
